HISTORY OF AMPHIBIOUS DREDGE - "SKYE" - GC350-SPECIAL DUTY

The dredge was developed for use in waterways, coastal estuaries, lakes, dams, tidal and wave affected areas, environmentally sensitive locations and sites with poor access or suitability for conventional floating dredges. It distinguishes itself from conventional cutter dredges by application of the following elements:-

a. Four independent height-adjustable track legs with hydraulically driven tracks that are forward and aft steerable.

b. One accurately controlled swing ladder with adjustable hydraulically driven cutter suction head.

c. Independent water cooling system for the main diesel engine with oil coolers.

d. Multi purpose cutter heads for excavating pipelines and like in tide or wave zones.

e. Deck winches forward and aft.

f. Rear mounted 6.5 ton Hydraulic Crane

The above features allow for a continuous one-man dredging operation without production interruption for pole manoeuvres or anchor setting.

Within reasonable parameters, the dredge has the ability to work at a strict dredging depth, independent of water, tide or wind conditions.

The operating principle as well as the technical layout and maintenance is practical nature. These principles make the dredge capable of being run comfortably and efficiently without hindrance to water traffic or environment for stable difficult opertations at various depths.

The dredge has stability when afloat, but performs its best dredging duties when standing and driving on its elevated leg tracks. This allows the dredge to work with a minimum of water, The bottom pressure is variable by pontoon floatation.

Due to its independent cooling system, the dredge is capable of covering shallow or dry stretches, using its track mobility and high swing speed and can "tow" its pipeline.

The dredge hull is sized to drive on shore, lift itself above a trailer for road transport Approximately 50% of the dry total weight can be dismounted for separate transport.

The amphibious platform lends itself to many various duties on shore - off shore, lifting, cutting, hauling, dredging, and trenching applications. The unit also has a 6.5t hydraulic crane and deck winches - 4t and 3t line pull direct. Being completely hydraulic the machine is highly versatile, the forward ladder can be replaced with a working platform to allow fitting of various tooling and drilling options.
